A trusted program with a new home
The Center for Bioethics & Human Dignity (CBHD) has helped shape Christian bioethics for more than 30 years. In 2026, CBHD moved to LeTourneau University and brought its annual conference, its research collection, and the journal Ethics & Medicine with it.
Now the MA in Bioethics built alongside CBHD is here too, led by the faculty who have taught it for years.
Why LeTourneau? This is the Christian Polytechnic University. Here, AI, gene editing, and medical devices are core subject matter, not a side topic.
Engineering, nursing, aviation, and computer science sit next to theology on our campus. That makes LeTourneau a natural home for the questions bioethics is facing now.
Where do the hard questions find you?
Students come to bioethics from many directions. Pick the one closest to yours to see how the program fits.
- I work in healthcare
- I build technology
- I serve in ministry
- I'm a LETU undergrad
Nurses, physicians, chaplains, administrators
Bring your whole self to the hard cases.
End-of-life decisions, family conflicts, and difficult judgment calls all happen during your shift. Secular ethics training often asks you to leave your faith at the door. Here, you'll build a Christian framework rooted in the Hippocratic tradition, the language medicine already speaks, so you can reason through cases with conviction and credibility.
- Take Clinical Bioethics, then Advanced Clinical Bioethics, both taught with practicing physicians in mind.
- Finish every required course remotely. Seven-week courses make it easier to study around rotating shifts.
- Ground your capstone in your own setting with a project or a clinical internship.
Thinking about joining your hospital's ethics committee? This degree prepares you to reason through cases, write clearly about them, and serve on a committee with confidence.
Engineers, developers, researchers
Faith, science, and technology are the point here.
You work on AI diagnostics, patient data, medical devices, or genomic tools. You want to be the person on the team who asks "should we?" and has a thoughtful answer. Our polytechnic setting means the technical reality of your work gets serious attention.
- Take a required core course on Emerging Tech, Biotech & Biomedical Engineering Ethics.
- Add electives such as Ethical Leadership in a Technology Environment, Christian Approach to Engineering Leadership, or Research Ethics.
- Research with full access to IEEE Xplore, Ethics and Information Technology, and Science and Engineering Ethics alongside the bioethics literature.
Your capstone can be an integrative project tied to the questions you face at work.
Pastors, teachers, nonprofit leaders
Your congregation is already asking. Be ready to answer.
People in your church are facing IVF and embryo decisions, genetic test results, and end-of-life care for aging parents. This program gives you the biblical and theological depth to walk with them, and to teach your church to think well about questions it will keep facing.
- Shape your capstone as a sermon or teaching series, or a bioethics curriculum for your church.
- Study from home without relocating. Every course you need to finish is available remotely.
- Been out of school a while? If your GPA is below the standard threshold, the admissions committee can review a résumé of your work, church, and community service.
Many students come back to school mid-career. You'll be in good company.
Juniors and seniors with 75+ hours
Start your master's before you graduate.
Once you've completed 75 credit hours, you can apply for parallel enrollment with a recommendation from your academic advisor. That lets you take graduate bioethics courses while you finish your bachelor's degree.
- Parallel students take a limited, designated set of courses, so your major stays on track.
- Get involved with CBHD on campus through book discussions, the summer conference, and student paper competitions.
- Write book reviews for Ethics & Medicine, an international peer-reviewed journal published here at LeTourneau.
Heading to medical or graduate school? Talk with your advisor about adding graduate bioethics credit to your application. Note that only graduate-level sections count toward the MA.
A framework you can name, apply, and defend
Every course builds on a biblically informed, theologically rich approach to bioethics, shaped by the Hippocratic tradition in medicine. You'll study competing methods carefully and come away knowing where you stand and why.
When you graduate, you'll be able to:
- Discuss traditional and emerging issues across medicine, science, and technology
- Tell apart the competing philosophical and theological approaches in bioethics today
- Apply a contextually sensitive, biblically informed approach to real cases
- Engage bioethical challenges in clinical care, research, technology development, and ministry
- Address the deeper questions underneath each dilemma, not just the presenting one
