How do I get a US cell phone number?

Buy a US SIM card or international plan to be able to make local calls/texts when you travel.

At orientation, the OGI office will also provide U.S. SIM cards that you can easily set up. It is important that you have a U.S. phone number in order for you to stay in touch with our workers during ISO and throughout your stay!

How can I buy bedding and other needed items after I arrive?

During ISO, the OGI office will provide opportunities to go to Walmart where you can buy bedding. After ISO, there is also a city bus that drives from LeTourneau University to Walmart and back. For online shopping, Amazon also has great options for essential items. Once you are on campus, a P.O. box will be assigned to you where you can have items delivered.

How can I be a good roommate?

It is important to discuss with your roommate what each other's expectations are. Get to know them and be understanding. Learn to respect your roommate's personal space and also communicate your preferences. One of the biggest things that you need to learn when living with another person is to be lenient and flexible. Of course, do not let others disrespect you; however, you also need to learn that not everything can be exactly how you would like it to be. Communicate your needs and be friendly. Lastly, be a good friend. Sometimes your roommate is going through a rough time, and all they want is a friend that listens.

What does transportation in Longview look like?

We have a city bus that can take students from campus to downtown Longview and Walmart. Public transportation is very minimal, and most people drive their cars. The OGI office has a student driver system that allows students to make Important Ride Requests to banks, hospitals, etc., and employed drivers will take the students to their destination. This driver system is only available for important appointments and not daily transportation.
