The Fine Arts department at LeTourneau University is pleased to present a monthly lecture series on topics in the Fine Arts and Humanities. The series is open to the public, and will take place in the Berry Auditorium of the Glaske Center for Engineering, Science and Technology. Lectures will occur on the second Thursday of each month from 11:00 to 11:55am, with schedule adjustments to accommodate school breaks or presenter availability.

- September 10: The History of Rock Music, Dr. Jim Taylor
The rise of rock ‘n’ roll and its offspring, rock, is the most important music phenomenon of the last century. Economically, rock music has grown to a multibillion-dollar industry; socially, it has had far-reaching impact on fashion, language, politics, and religion; musically, it has dominated the popular music scene and influenced virtually every other style of music—classical, jazz, country-western, and contemporary global pop.
How did it begin, what are its roots? And who were the major figures in forming its sound? Dr. Jim Taylor, Director of Fine Arts and Professor of Music, will explain and play musical clips telling rock music’s story focusing particularly on its first thirty years, from 1950 to 1980.
