For all official Letourneau University social media channels operated through LETU Student Life (i.e., Buzz App, Student Organization Facebook and Instagram accounts, etc.).
At LeTourneau University, we engage learners to nurture Christian virtue, to develop competency and ingenuity in professional fields, to integrate faith and work, and to serve the local and global community. In modern society, our experience in social media and digital communities are an integral part of our learning and development. Therefore, our values and expectations for LETU social media usage mirror those that shape our face-to-face community into the transformative experience it is.
All of the behavioral policies at LeTourneau, including online/digital/social media standards, aim at cultivating human flourishing in community and are founded in our understanding of God’s word and the principles outlined in the LETU Community Covenant:
- The belief that every human being is created in the image of God (Gen. 1:26-27), which automatically infers a certain value and dignity with which every person should be treated
- The two Great Commandments: Love God and love your neighbor as yourself (Matt. 22:37-40)
- The Christian life should show evidence of the fruits of the Holy Spirit: "love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control" (Gal. 5:22-23)
Furthermore, we desire for all LETU social media and digital spaces to be unifying, not divisive. LETU-administered social media accounts of all forms are considered public spaces, similar to a residence hall or a classroom, and we seek to cultivate the same atmosphere in these digital spaces as we do on our physical campus. University personnel reserve the right to remove any speech, posts, or users that negatively impact the atmosphere of our online community.
Any posts, comments, etc. which include the following will automatically be deleted, and repeat offenders will be blocked and subject to the LETU conduct process:
- Obscenity, nudity, slander, or hateful speech (speech directed against people or groups based on race, religion, gender, disability, ethnicity, age, economic status, sexual orientation, or any other protected status)
- Harmful, threatening, or divisive language
- Endorsement or encouragement of illegal activities
