Deron Thaxton serves as Vice President for Business and Administration at LeTourneau University, bringing more than 28 years of leadership experience in higher education administration, finance, technology, and institutional operations. Throughout his career, he has provided executive leadership in finance, human resources, information technology, facilities, enrollment management, financial aid, risk management, auxiliary services, and strategic planning, with a focus on advancing institutional mission and student success.
Deron and his wife of 29 years, Shere’ Matthews Thaxton, met at a young age while attending Florien High School. They began dating prior to Shere's senior year in 1993. They have one son, Aiden, who oversees cybersecurity for Marucci Sports in Baton Rouge. Aiden and his fiancée, Bianca, a billing specialist with JP Oil in Lafayette, are preparing for their future together.
A committed follower of Christ, Thaxton has been actively involved in church ministry for many years, including teaching adult Sunday School (Life Groups) and serving in various leadership roles. He strives to lead with integrity, humility, and faithful stewardship in every aspect of his professional and personal life.
Before joining LeTourneau University, Thaxton most recently served as Executive Vice Chancellor for Administration and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Louisiana State University at Alexandria (LSUA), where he spent more than two decades in leadership roles, including Chief Information Officer and Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administrative Services. During his tenure, he helped guide a period of six straight years of record enrollment, significant campus growth, sound financial stewardship, and organizational transformation.
Thaxton has also served as a higher education consultant for colleges and universities across the United States and Canada, providing expertise in student enrollment management, information systems, finance, financial aid, accounting services, data management, and institutional operations. In addition, he has taught leadership courses and served for many years as an adjunct faculty member teaching finance, economics, and healthcare administration.
Thaxton earned an Associate of Science in Computer Technology and a Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering Technology from Northwestern State University, and a Master of Health Administration from Louisiana State University Shreveport. He also holds professional certifications in finance and human resources, including the Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP).
