SCHEDULE:

This is a nine month position with the possibility of summer school teaching. Classes and other responsibilities are conducted primarily on weekdays but could include some evening classes and independent studies. Attendance is required at some evening and weekend events. 

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

LeTourneau University, a vibrant and growing interdenominational, evangelical Christian university, known for high-quality STEM programs that attract students of outstanding academic ability, invites applications and nominations for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Technical Writing & Communication, Department of Humanities & Social Sciences. This is a tenure-track position, with rank negotiable based on experience. This faculty member will teach a range of composition and technical writing courses. The ideal candidate should have excellent team-building skills and the interest and experience to provide growth to the Department of Humanities & Social Sciences. Research and teaching experience are highly desired. Professional experience in technical writing within industry, government, or non-profit contexts is highly desirable.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach a full-time load of courses in English composition and technical/professional writing, including preparation of course materials and assessments. Ideally, the candidate will have an interest in classical rhetoric and also contribute to the Communication Program with courses such as Digital Communication, Visual Communication, or Media Writing.
  • Teach a wide variety of courses across the curriculum from freshman to senior level with a four course (12 hour) load per fall and spring semester
  • Participate actively in the university learning community by serving on department, school, and/or university committees and special service assignments
  • Participate in student advising, success, and retention programs
  • Commitment to academic scholarship in the field of expertise
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in English, Rhetoric & Composition, or Technical/Professional Writing from an accredited university or in a closely related field
  • Demonstrated teaching competency
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively and professionally interact with students, colleagues, and administrators in a university learning community
  • The successful candidate will be able to think creatively and critically about the essential role of the humanities (and writing, in particular) within the “Christian Polytechnic University” mission and provide leadership for efforts to fully infuse the humanities within the learning environment and campus culture of LeTourneau University. This includes developing communication and analytical skills in students majoring in technical fields such as engineering, aviation, computer science, etc.
