SCHEDULE:

The position is for nine months with the possibility of summer school teaching. Classes and other responsibilities are conducted primarily on weekdays but could include some evening classes and independent studies. Attendance will also be required at some evening and weekend events

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

LeTourneau University, a vibrant and growing interdenominational, evangelical Christian university, known for high-quality STEM programs that attract students of outstanding academic ability, invites applications and nominations for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Chemistry, Department of Natural Sciences. This is a tenure-track position with rank negotiable based on experience. This faculty member will teach a range of chemistry courses from General Chemistry through upper-level courses. The ideal candidate will have a degree and research experience in Physical Chemistry, excellent team-building skills, and the interest and experience to provide growth to the Department of Natural Sciences. Research and teaching experience are highly desired.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach a full-time load of chemistry courses, involving preparation of course materials and assessments
  • Conduct laboratory instruction conforming to best practices, including those for safety
  • Obtain laboratory equipment and supplies for instruction and undergraduate research
  • Empower and supervise undergraduate research
  • Participate actively in the university learning community, including committees, seminars, and department meetings
  • Participate in student advising and success programs
  • Maintain a commitment to academic scholarship in the field of expertise
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • An earned doctorate in the field of Chemistry (Ph.D.) with specialization in Physical Chemistry from an accredited university or in a closely related field
  • Demonstrated teaching competencies must include designing and teaching freshman to senior-level chemistry courses (lecture and laboratory), including physical chemistry and general chemistry (with the potential to teach other upper-level courses)
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively and professionally interact with students, colleagues, and administrators in a university learning community
  • Experience and skills in chemistry research transferable to research that will involve undergraduate students
