LeTourneau University sophomore aviation major Jacob Hansen from Hamilton, Missouri, has been selected to receive a $1,000 scholarship from the Captain Jason Dahl Scholarship Fund.
The fund is named after Captain Jason Dahl who, on Sept. 11, 2001, piloted the hijacked Boeing 757 United Airlines Flight 93 that crashed in the Pennsylvania field near Shanksville, killing all on board.
The scholarship is in support of the future generations of pilots. 141 scholarships have been awarded since 2002.
Originally, the fund provided scholarships only for his alma mater San Jose State University and Metro State University in Denver, where Dahl lived, but expanded to other schools in the nation in 2011. Since then, out of seven applications from LETU students, four have been winners of the scholarship, a 57% success rate, according to Kevin Larson, fund secretary.
“This rate ranks Le Tourneau as one of the most successful schools in the Captain Jason Dahl Family,” Larson said. “It is a testament to the quality of your program and students.”
LETU Dean of the College of Aviation and Aeronautical Science Fred Ritchey was pleased to hear of the student’s success.
“We are proud of Jacob and appreciate the kind words from Mr. Larson,” he said. “We also appreciate the dedication and generosity of the Captain Jason Dahl Scholarship Fund Board in setting up this scholarship.”
