The position is a full-time fixed term (3 years) position. Responsibilities are conducted weekdays primarily but may also include online responsibilities and attendance at evening and weekend events.


LeTourneau University seeks exceptional candidates for a full-time research associate in Welding Engineering at the Longview, TX campus location. The successful applicant will be responsible for supporting research in the Department of Welding/Materials Joining Engineering and maintaining a state-of-the-art 11,000 square foot welding laboratory. Key responsibilities include: 1) Perform research in the areas of welding, metallurgy, and/or additive manufacturing; 2) Maintain and improve laboratory facilities. Additional duties may be required as needs arise to advance the program. This position requires experience with hands-on equipment maintenance and operation, a demonstrated track record of exceptional research, and the potential to secure externally funded research. This is a 3-year fixed-term position. Recent Ph.D. graduates are encouraged to apply.

Desired areas of expertise include welding process development, welding metallurgy, welding inspection, qualification, and advanced manufacturing, including automation and additive manufacturing. Candidates must hold a B.S. degree in Materials, Welding, or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution and a graduate degree (M.S. minimum, Ph.D. preferred) Welding/Metallurgical/Materials Engineering.

SALARY: Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and other qualifications.
