SCHEDULE: Full-time position, weekdays between 8am and 5pm.  Occasional overtime and weekends may be required.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:

We are seeking an accounting professional to assist the Controller in managing the university’s financial operations while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and effective internal controls.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure the integrity of general ledger accounts and activity. This is accomplished in part by providing oversight for the preparation and posting of journal entries, reconciliation of general ledger accounts, and production and distribution of various financial reports, assuring accuracy of the information being reported.   
  • Prepare financial reports for assigned areas to ensure compliance with various statutory requirements, generally accepted accounting principles, and established policies and procedures.
  • Assist the Controller in overseeing accounts payable and month end close process.
  • Prepare and assist with year-end close, annual audit, audit requests, annual budget process, and capital budgeting.
  • Participate in special projects, team training, and development.
  • Provide technical accounting support to various departments.
  • Work with IT to maintain system processes.
  • Oversee the maintenance of the chart of accounts and fixed asset accounting.
  • Assist with ensuring compliance with IRS, FASB and other regulatory agencies.
  • Provide support for accounting software related issues, including the development and implementation of new software processes.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Strongly prefer a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or equivalent from an accredited University or College.
  • Minimum 5 years of Accounting/Finance experience, with an emphasis on financial accounting for not for profit, preferably in a college or university setting.
  • Experience in maintaining and producing financial reports from administrative computing software, with emphasis on developing reports.
  • Significant experience in analyzing and reconciling general ledger accounts.
  • Ability to accurately interpret and implement GAAP, FASB, IRS and state tax instructions.
  • Intermediate to advanced experience with Microsoft Office products, primarily Excel and Outlook, and ability to learn and use dedicated software and report writing tools.  
  • Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy, efficiency, confidentiality, and independence.
  • A team player with outstanding oral, written, organizational and analytical skills.
  • Highly motivated, energetic, and dedicated individual with personal and professional integrity
  • Quick learner and able to respond well to a fast paced, multi-task environment.
  • Well organized and strong ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work well with multiple teams and build relationships across campus.
