SCHEDULE: Office hours are primarily weekdays, but responsibilities require additional hours and flexibility that will include many evenings and weekends.

The Head Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Coach is responsible to the Director of Athletics for the teaching, management, conduct, recruiting and supervision of all phases of a new track and field program in a manner that upholds the philosophy and objectives of the University. 


  • Primary duty is to provide instruction to student-athletes in skills of track and field. These duties include:
    • Planning and developing a first-year men’s and women’s track and field program
    • Recruiting and retaining highly skilled student-athletes for the men’s and women’s track and field teams consistent with the LETU philosophy and standards.
    • Demonstrating and teaching competitive competition.
    • Establishing coaching strategies and teaching methods to develop student- athlete’s skills and teamwork.
    • Preparing student-athletes physically and mentally and spiritually for competition.
    • Developing a practice and competition schedule.
    • Providing leadership and mentoring to student-athletes in sportsmanship and ethical behavior.
    • Mentoring student-athletes in academic performance and tutoring.
    • Providing and participating in team community service opportunities.
    • Counseling team members in disciplinary, academic, or personal matters while consulting with LETU administration on matters requiring resolution of problems. 
  • Secondary duties include:
  • Directing, coordinating, and supervising the track and field staff in the planning, organizing, and coaching of the LETU track and field teams.
  • Ensuring compliance with the University, Conference and NCAA policies and regulations.
  • Determining fiscal requirements and budgetary recommendations while monitoring, verifying, and reconciling expenditures of budgeted funds.
  • Coordinating the scheduling, planning and management of practice and competition schedules with the Director of Athletics.
  • Creating and providing documents, reports, and information required for program and department functions.
Performing other duties as requested by the Director of Athletics.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the sport of track and field
  • Ability to effectively teach track and field skills during practice sessions.
  • Demonstrate competitive coaching skills in area of expertise.
  • Skill to recruit and retain highly skilled student-athletes.
  • Ability to utilize information technology and display computer skills.
  • Skill in communicating effectively in oral, written and electronic means.
  • Knowledge of NCAA and Conference regulations and guidelines.
  • Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management.
  • Ability to effectively counsel student athletes on requirements for personal, academic, and athletic participation.
  • Ability to prepare, submit, and maintain accurate reports, records, and documents required by the Department.
  • Skill in public relations that build, support and promote the program to the internal and external community.
  • Skill in fundraising to help cultivate donors to build an on-campus track. 


Ability to conduct practices in outdoor practice environment is required. Physical demands are moderate to high based upon practice requirements. Standing, walking, and some running for extended periods are common. Job includes considerable travel during the week and weekends over the course of the season and recruiting period. Evening and late night hours are common to the position. 


Masters or above preferred, Bachelors degree required. Track and field coaching experience at the college, university, and/or professional level preferred. A proven record of integrity, high moral principles, and demonstrated skill will be considered. Successful recruitment of high skill level players with acceptable graduation rates will be necessary.
