SCHEDULE: This full-time position will begin in Summer 2019. Work hours are primarily weekdays, but responsibilities require additional hours and flexibility that can include evenings and weekends.

LeTourneau University is now hiring for the role of Civil and Environmental Engineering Laboratory Technician at the Longview, TX campus location. The Laboratory Technician will have a responsibility to 1) Maintain and improve laboratory facilities; 2) Prepare equipment and materials for laboratory classes; 3) Implement safety program; and 4) Support research activities. This position requires hands-on equipment maintenance and operation, facilities improvement, and experiment setup and execution. The role requires a high level of independence and initiative, careful attention to details, self-motivation, interpersonal effectiveness and reliability. The successful candidate will enjoy working with professors, researchers, and students in a teaching and research environment.


The following responsibilities are intended to describe only the general nature and level of work being performed. The civil and environmental engineering lab technician will have a responsibility to:

  • Maintain and improve laboratory facilities
  • Maintain a professional laboratory environment in 10,000 sq ft indoor lab spaces and 7,500 sq ft outdoor lab space, including cleaning, renovation, organization, and inventory management.
  • Maintain and operate a variety of manufacturing and testing equipment.
  • Prepare equipment and materials for laboratory classes
  • Supervise student work during appointed open lab hours (weekdays and some evenings).
  • Order, procure, and prepare materials and supplies for teaching labs and research, while maintaining an accurate record of spending.
  • Assist faculty with lab exercises, as needed.
  • Implement safety program
  • Train students in safe practices, maintain PPE supplies, keep equipment in safe working order, and respond to safety emergencies.
  • Maintain inventory of materials and dispose of waste according to proper policies.
  • Support research activities
  • Independently develop and implement experiments, collect data, and communicate results.
  • Build new testing apparatuses and fixtures, as needed.

  • Willing and able to work in environments with frequent bending, reaching, and lifting, including lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Forklift-certified or willing to be trained and certified.
  • In possession of a current valid driver’s license.

Applicants should possess a B.S. in Engineering or Engineering Technology from an accredited college or university, with a degree concentration in civil or environmental engineering.
