SCHEDULE: Office hours are primarily weekdays, but responsibilities require additional hours and flexibility that will include many evenings and weekends.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Occupational Summary 

The Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach is responsible to the Head Women’s Basketball Coach and Director of Athletics for the organization, supervision, coaching and recruiting of all aspects of a Division III women’s basketball program in a manner that upholds the philosophy and objectives of the University. 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities 

Assist the Head Women’s Basketball Coach in: 

  • Providing leadership and instruction in the academic, athletic, and personal development of student-athletes at LeTourneau University.
  • Ensuring compliance with the University, Conference, and NCAA policies and regulations.
  • Recruiting and retaining highly skilled student-athletes for the women’s basketball team consistent with the LETU philosophy and standards.
  • Assisting in scheduling, planning and management of home and away women’s basketball contests.
  • Assisting in creating and providing documents, reports, and information required for the women’s basketball program and department functions.
  • Assisting in monitoring academic progress of members of the women’s basketball team.
  • Assisting in skill training, practice organization, and recruiting for women’s basketball.
  • Representing the University in public relations and marketing activities that promote the women’s basketball programs and community relations.
  • Performing other duties as requested by Head Women’s Basketball Coach and the Director of Athletics 

Desirable Knowledge, Abilities and Skills 

  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of basketball game.
  • Ability to effectively teach basketball during practice sessions.
  • Ability to assist in competitive coaching skills in areas of basketball.
  • Skill to recruit and retain highly skilled student-athletes in women’s basketball.
  • Ability to utilize information technology and display computer skills.
  • Skill in communicating effectively in oral, written and electronic means.
  • Knowledge of NCAA and Conference regulations and guidelines.
  • Ability to effectively counsel student-athletes on requirements for personal, academic, and athletic participation.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationship with employees, other agencies and the public.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Skill in public relations that build, support and promote the program to the internal and external community. 

Physical Demands and Work Environment 

Ability to conduct practices on the court is required. Ability to work extended hours outdoors in varying weather conditions is required. Physical demands are moderate to high based upon practice and requirements. Standing, walking, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 60 lbs. regularly are common. Job includes considerable travel during the week and weekends over the course of the season. Early morning, evening and late night hours are common to the position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Credentials and Experience 

Required qualifications: Bachelor’s degree; knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations; good verbal and written communication, comprehensive writing and organizational skills; a proven record of integrity, high moral principles, and demonstrated skill; successful recruitment of high skill level student-athletes with acceptable graduation rates. 

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree preferred with minimum of one year college and or playing experience at the college level; solid understanding of player development and recognition of talent.
