SCHEDULE: This position is part-time and will begin in the Spring semester of 2019.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
LeTourneau University invites applications for the position of Lab Coordinator.  This individual will manage the natural science labs, oversee relevant safety protocol, and coordinate the handling and disposal of chemical waste.  Primary duties of this position are flexible and dependent upon the experience and training of the qualified candidate.
Primary Duties:
  • Coordinate Student Workers and assist full time faculty in setting up weekly labs and maintaining lab safety
  • Coordinate regular and appropriate maintenance and repair of laboratory instruments
  • Work with administrators and other employees to develop and implement appropriate chemical hygiene policies and practices; acquire equipment needed for handling, storing and disposing of chemicals, and provide training for employees and students
  • Enforce procedures for the handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals used in the laboratories
  • Ensure appropriate audits are performed and records of inspection are maintained
  • Seek ways to improve the chemical hygiene program
  • Ensure that the Chemical Hygiene Plan is reviewed annually and revised as necessary in order to maintain compliance with current legal requirements
  • Teach courses/labs in Physics, Chemistry, or Geology 
QUALIFICATIONS:
QUALIFICATIONS: 

Required Education and Experience

  • Master’s Degree, with at least 18 graduate hours of credit in either Physics, Chemistry, or Geology, preferred
  • Strong command of the English language with excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Must be familiar with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, various computer interface programs, and other scientific software for laboratory instruments in the Natural Sciences Division, or must possess the ability to become fluent with software and hardware for instruments that need repair
  • Must have or acquire the ability to use chemical databases to discern hazard information about chemicals for risk assessment
  • Must be certified, or able to obtain training and certification, in an approved Chemical Hygiene or Environmental Safety program within the first six months of employment
  • Supportive of leadership direction, policies, and procedures; team-player contributing to comradery within the faculty and department
  • Agreement with Christian Statement of Faith and institutional policies of LeTourneau University.  Positive, cooperative and Christ-like attitude supportive of the University and its mission
