The position is year round with the exception of scheduled vacation and paid holidays. Flight instruction and other responsibilities occur primarily on weekdays, but include evening and weekend flights. Attendance will also be required at some evening and weekend events.  

  • Fly a variety of well-maintained training aircraft including: 2005 and newer Citabria, 2016-2017 Cessna 172S, 2017 Piper PA-44 Seminole.
  • Provide flight and ground instruction to assigned students to levels of competency and completion as outlined in flight syllabi. All primary flight training for private certificate is done in the Citabrias!
  • Perform assigned university related flight duties, oral briefings, simulator sessions, facility tours and other duties as requested.
  • Work with and be responsible to the Director of Flight Operations.
  • Satisfactorily complete the flight standardization course as assigned by the Chief Instructor.
  • Work creatively and collaboratively within a team of professional flight instructors to ensure quality flight training is provided to all flight students.
  • Complete all flight training in a timely manner within the allotted time for each flight course, working as needed to ensure desired outcomes are met for each student.
  • Participate in university activities related to a flight instructor position.
  • Maintain flight currency and proficiency through periodic internal flight training as assigned.

Minimum professional qualifications are: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Commercial pilot – airplane single/multi engine land
  • Instrument rating – airplane
  • Certified flight instructor – airplane, instrument  
Tailwheel flight experience is preferred. This person must be able to share his/her Christian faith with others around them and model their faith every day. This person must have the ability to work effectively in a team relationship with fellow flight instructors and within the community of LeTourneau University. The ability to relate to students is also a requirement.
