The position is year round with the exception of scheduled vacation and paid holidays. Flight instruction and other responsibilities occur primarily on weekdays, but include evening and weekend flights. Attendance will also be required at periodic evening and weekend events. 

  • Safely operate a variety of well-maintained training aircraft including: 2005 and newer 7GCAA/7ECA Citabria, 2016 and newer Cessna 172 Skyhawks, and 2017 Piper PA-44 Seminole aircraft.
  • Provide flight, simulator, and ground instruction to collegiate flight training students in a highly structured FAA 14 CFR part 141 approved flight training environment
  • Undergo initial and recurrent flight standardization as assigned by the Chief Instructor and in compliance with FAA requirements and LETU SOPs.
  • Maintain and review assigned student electronic training records to ensure regulatory compliance with syllabi and airman certification requirements
  • Work with and be responsible to the Chief Instructor for helping to execute the mission of the LeTourneau School of Aviation
  • Work creatively and collaboratively within a team of professional flight instructors to ensure the highest quality and safety of flight training is provided to all flight students.
  • Partner with students to complete all flight training in a timely manner within the allotted time for each flight course, working as needed to ensure desired outcomes are met for each student.
  • Participate in university activities related to the flight instructor position.

LeTourneau University operates a 14 CFR Part 141 flight school as part of its College of Aviation and Aeronautical Science Bachelor’s Degree Program.

This person must have the ability to work effectively in a team relationship with fellow flight instructors and within the community of LeTourneau University. The ability to relate to students is also a requirement.

Minimum professional qualifications are: 

  • Associate degree or sixty or completed more than sixty college semester (+60 hrs) credit hours
  • Commercial pilot – airplane single engine land
  • Instrument rating – airplane
  • Certified flight instructor – airplane single engine land

Preferred professional qualifications are:

  • Bachelor’s degree in aviation related field
  • Commercial pilot – airplane single and multi-engine land or higher
  • Certified flight instructor – instrument airplane (CFII) and/or multi-engine airplane (MEI)
  • Tailwheel flight experience is preferred.
