REPORTS TO: Chair of Flight Science
SCHEDULE: The position is year-round except for scheduled vacation and paid holidays. Flight instruction and other responsibilities are conducted primarily weekdays but may include some evening and weekend flights. Attendance will also be required at some evening and weekend events.

The successful candidate for the position will manage flight instruction at LeTourneau by:

  • Supervising flight instructors including; hiring, mentoring, standardization and supervision of all flight instructors to ensure each instructor teaches what the school wants taught and how it is taught.
  • Serving as the principal liaison between LeTourneau University and the FAA with respect to flight training operations.
  • Conducting and standardizing the delivery of flight stage checks.
  • Working closely with the Dispatch Manager and Director of Maintenance to manage resources.
  • Maintain an adequate instructor supply to meet training needs, including recruitment of new instructors and retention of current ones.
  • Overseeing the maintenance of accurate flight training records.
  • Providing leadership in the development and improvement of the flight courses to assure the highest quality of flight instruction.
  • Maintain an understanding of current technologies applicable to the courses being taught.
  • Keep the department chair apprised of any quality of instruction issues that arise.
  • Maintain a close relationship with flight instructors and assistant chief instructors to ensure a cohesive team.
  • Conduct regular meetings with Assistant Chief Instructors and Flight Instructors.
  • Serve as an advisor to Aeronautical Science students.
  • Conduct classroom and flight instruction as assigned.
  • Participate in normal college activities related to a faculty position.

  • LeTourneau University operates a flight training program as part of its Aeronautical Science Bachelor’s Program under CFR part 141 and 61. Minimum professional qualifications are:
  • B.S. degree in aviation, M.S. degree in aviation desired
  • Commercial pilot – airplane single engine land
  • Commercial pilot – multi-engine land
  • Instrument rating – airplane
  • Flight instructor – airplane
  • Flight instructor – instrument airplane
  • Flight instructor – multi-engine airplane
  • Advanced Ground Instructor Certificate
  • Meeting CFR part 141 experience requirements for chief position
  • Ability to work effectively in a team relationship with flight instructor staff and within the community of LeTourneau University 
Highly qualified applicants will have:
  • Airline Transport Pilot Certificate
  • Minimum of 10 years aviation industry experience
  • Airframe and Powerplant mechanic certificate
  • 10 years flight and ground teaching experience in a university part 141/61 program
