Office hours are primarily weekdays, but responsibilities may require additional hours and flexibility that include evenings and weekends. The position is for nine months, with the possibility of summer school teaching.  Classes and other responsibilities are conducted primarily on weekdays but could include some evening classes and independent studies.  Attendance also required at some evening and weekend events.

  • Teach a full-time load of undergraduate English courses, involving preparation of course materials and assessments
  • Participate actively in the University learning community, including committees, seminars, and department meetings
  • Participate in student advising and success programs
  • Maintain a commitment to academic scholarship in the field of expertise

  • Earned doctorate in English (departmental needs are for a generalist)
  • Demonstrated teaching competencies must include a full range of composition courses and literature surveys
  • Commitment to working within a program emphasizing primary texts in the Great Books Tradition
  • Technical writing coursework and teaching experience would be beneficial
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively and professionally interact with students, colleagues, and administrators in a university learning community
