Women In Aviation: Betsy Bane

Year at LETU:Junior
Major: Aviation Studies

What drew you to aviation?
LETU drew me to aviation with their Aircraft Systems degree with a concentration in Computer Science. My original goal was to design flight decks but once I got into the program I realized I much preferred the business side of aviation.

What do you want to do with your degree once you graduate?
I hope to join a management team with an airline (preferably Delta or Southwest) or an aircraft company (such as Boeing or Cessna) to gain management experience. My dream is to one day become the CEO of DFW airport.

What would you tell a young girl who might be interested in a career in aviation?

LETU is a great place to get started. Even if you are not sure what side of aviation is for you, LETU offers a wide variety of courses that will let you experience business, maintenance, and pilot training to help you narrow down your choice. Plus, we are working hard to become an official chapter of Women in Aviation International!

What is the best thing about LeTourneau University's aviation programs?

I think the thing that stands out the most to me is the incredible knowledge of our professors. You could talk to them for hours about their many experiences in the aviation world. They are always there to help you and find what major best suits you.

Have you or will you have any unique opportunities during your time at LETU?

I have been able to take part in several awesome opportunities since I've been at LETU. Every year the Marines come to give free KingAir flights to the students. Each student is allowed to fly the plane for about 5 minutes. This was my first flight in a small aircraft and it was amazing! Also every year the girls in the aviation department get together and travel to the Women in Aviation Conference. The conference provides incredible opportunities for contacts and networking. Finally, I have accepted an internship with Cessna Aircraft Company for the summer. I am looking forward to working as a Citation Service Center Admin intern in Wichita, KS for several months.
