LETU Ranks 23rd in U.S. News 2018 College Rankings of 'America's Best Colleges'

LeTourneau University ranked 23rd in the top tier of the national 2018 U.S. News and World Report's annual rankings of "America's Best Colleges" in its category of "Best Regional Universities in the Western Region." Among only the Texas schools, LETU was ranked 6th.
The LETU ranking is up from 27th in 2017, and 32 in 2016. This year marks the 24th year the university has ranked in the top tier of its classification.

Among "Great Schools Great Prices" ranking of schools that provide a Best Value for regional universities in the West, LETU was ranked 11th.

LETU also ranked 15th among Best Colleges for Veterans in the West.
LETU was listed alphabetically on the "A-plus Schools for B-students" listing of schools that admit a meaningful proportion of applicants whose test scores and class standings are non-A students, but are schools that provide opportunity for being accepted and thriving with spirit and hard work.

U.S. News ranks colleges and universities among other schools with similar programs and degree offerings. Indicators used to determine the rankings include academic reputation, retention, faculty, class sizes, SAT and ACT scores of incoming freshmen, average graduation rates and assessments by administrators at other peer universities. U.S. News rankings are released each fall and are considered the most notable of the annual published college rankings.

"To rank so well out of 120 similar universities in the West, a region that spans from Texas to Alaska, says much about the quality of the faculty and staff serving at LETU," said LETU President Dr. Dale A. Lunsford. "To have been ranked in the top tier of the region for 24 years is a credit to leadership past and present at LETU.

"Our engineering program continues to climb in the rankings of the nation's engineering programs," Lunsford said. "And these gains are happening while the university remains committed to being a good value for students. We are ranked even higher when one considers the price paid by students for the academic quality received."

In the 2018 U.S. News' "Best Engineering Programs in the United States" ranking, LETU's engineering school was ranked 29th, up from 31st in 2017 and 39th in 2016 among over 200 ABET-accredited engineering schools across the nation whose highest degree is a bachelor's or master's degree. Among only Texas schools on the list, LETU was at the top.

"LeTourneau University has a 70-year history of providing hands-on engineering education," said LETU Dean of Engineering Dr. Steven K. Starrett. "Our faculty have years of experience in industry and connect well the engineering fundamentals with real-world engineering design. Our 2018 ranking strongly supports LETU as one of 'America's Best Engineering Schools' and we are proud to be the top ranked Christian engineering school in the country."
The rankings, which include nearly 1,800 schools nationwide, are available at www.usnews.com/colleges beginning today, Sept. 12.
