LETU To Build New Athletic Field House

LeTourneau University will soon break ground on a new, 6,000-square-foot field house that will be located at the south side of the campus. The new facility will include a training room, a laundry room, a coach's conference room and four locker rooms with 129 locker spaces for student athletes.

LETU's men's soccer and baseball and women's soccer and softball intercollegiate athletics will particularly benefit from the new facility.

"This facility is the next addition in the Joyce Family Athletic Village development on our campus," said LETU President Dr. Dale A. Lunsford. "We are grateful for the leadership of Joe Bob and Lou Ann Joyce who understand the lessons learned in athletics and the valuable place of LeTourneau University in our community."

Construction is expected to start in late March or early April, with estimated completion to be around August or September. Architect on the project is Design Collaborative, with construction by Transet Co.

The new facility will cost an estimated $1.3 million, and is fully funded by generous donors as part of the university's "For Such A Time As This" comprehensive campaign.

LETU's NCAA athletic program is composed of over 200 student athletes competing in 13 intercollegiate sports. LETU's men's baseball team is the defending American Southwest Conference tournament champion this season. In 2014, the YellowJackets won its first American Southwest Conference tournament and then competed in the NCAA McMinnville Regional in Oregon. The team was ranked by Collegiate Baseball as high as 22nd in the nation during the season. Nine of the team members were named to the All-ASC team.

LETU YellowJacket softball team advanced in 2014 to its first-ever ASC Tournament.
