LETU Mourns Death of Trustee Emeritus Dr. Dick Chewning


LeTourneau University mourns the death of trustee emeritus Dr. Richard "Dick" C. Chewning who died Feb. 17.
Chewning was a university business professor who taught for 25 years at the University of Richmond and taught for 15 years as an endowed professor at Baylor University as the Harry and Hazel Chavanne Chair of Christian Ethics in Business. He searched God's word for applications to the field of business, and his goal was for those in business to understand Christ's mind as it applies to them who are called to the marketplace to work.
He served on a number of boards of directors and wrote many articles, essays and reviews, as well as writing and editing books, the last of which was "Becoming Partakers of The Divine Nature."
Chewing was a graduate of Virginia Tech, the University of Virginia and University of Washington. He did postdoctoral study at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland..
He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Shirley, and their three children, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
