Bill Kielhorn Memorial Slated for Wednesday, Jan. 11


A memorial service for longtime LeTourneau University engineering professor, William H. "Bill" Kielhorn, will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, on the third floor of the R.G. LeTourneau Memorial Student Center on the LETU campus, 2100 S. Mobberly Ave. in Longview. Kielhorn passed away Friday, Jan. 6, at home. He taught welding engineering at LeTourneau for 45 years, never missing a day of class. His last class was taught from the bed of his ICU room.

Born June 25, 1931, in Oxford, Wis., he was married to his faithful wife, Betty, on June 13, 1953. A loving husband, father, grandfather, Kielhorn was a devoted Christian and family man. He was an active member of Hope Fellowship Church in Longview, Texas, and wanted to serve the Lord in all that he did.

For 45 years, Kielhorn started every lecture with a devotional. He was a professional engineer and a certified welding inspector by the American Welding Society (AWS) for decades; he also served in many capacities in AWS leadership roles locally and nationally. He received many awards and recognitions for his dedication to his students and LeTourneau University and for his work with the American Welding Society.

Preceded in death by his parents and sister, Kielhorn is survived by his wife, Betty; and two daughters and sons-in-law, Glenda and Jim Hooker of Chicago, IL, and Martha and Gary Croft of Longview, and five grandchildren Amanda Streed, Courtney Bellamy, Chad Streed, Jacqueline Hooker, and Jamie Hooker.
