Dr. Alfred B. Coyle to Keynote LETU December Longview Commencement


Dr. Alfred B. Coyle of Jefferson City, Tenn., is an educator, a pastor and Southern Baptist leader who will be the keynote speaker at LeTourneau University's commencement service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, in the S.E. Belcher Jr. Chapel and Performance Center on the LETU campus, 2100 S. Mobberly Ave.

To prepare for his life of service in ministry and higher education, Coyle earned a Bachelor of Arts from Union University in Jackson, Tenn., as well as a Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry from Southern Seminary in Louisville, Ky.

Coyle retired as the executive vice president of Carson Newman College in Jefferson City, Tenn. He previously held the position of vice president for advancement. In addition to his administrative roles in higher education, he has served as a full-time Southern Baptist Convention pastor for the past 35 years. During that time he also served as interim pastor for 13 churches over a period of 15 years and was privileged to conduct revivals in 15 states.

Coyle's lifelong ministry and management have made a global impact, particularly through his mission leadership. He served on the board of directors of the Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention in Atlanta, Ga., in addition to serving as president of the Home Mission Board.
In his home state of Tennessee, Coyle served as president of the Tennessee Baptist Convention, as a member of the board of the Tennessee Baptist Convention, and as a member of the Tennessee Baptist Convention Executive Committee.

Coyle currently serves on the board of trustees of Union University, is a trustee of the Southern Baptist Convention Baptist Foundation, has served as a preacher for the Southern Baptist Convention annual meetings, and has preached the annual sermon at the Pan American Convention in Central America.
Coyle and his wife, Joan, have three sons, one of whom is LETU'S new Provost and Executive Vice President Dr. Philip A. Coyle.
