LETU's Belcher Center Announces 2010-2011 Season


LeTourneau University's S. E. Belcher Jr. Chapel and Performance Center is announcing its 2010-2011 show lineup featuring four shows in the Performance Series, four shows in the Concert series and two in the new Children's and Family Series.

Event ticket packages go on sale Thursday, July 1. All events begin at 7:30 p.m., except for the ballet on Jan. 27 and the two children's programs, which all begin at 7 p.m. The entire 2010-2011 Belcher Center season is underwritten by Martin Midstream Partners.

The Performance Series includes three Broadway productions and a ballet classic.

Saturday, Oct. 30- "DRUMLine Live" will transport the black marching band tradition from the playing field to the stage and will feature a flamboyant cast from the nation's top historically black colleges and universities. Individual ticket prices are $63 for Level A, $54 for Level B, $46 for Level C and $38 for Level D seating. Drumline Live is sponsored by Longview News Journal and Transet Co.

Saturday, Nov. 20- "Oklahoma," the Rodgers and Hammerstein family musical set in the Oklahoma Territory tells the story of a cowboy and his romance with a farm girl. Individual ticket prices are $73 for Level A, $65 for Level B, $57 for Level C and $49 for Level D. Oklahoma is sponsored by Texas Bank and Trust.

Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011-Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake" will feature the Russian National Ballet Theatre under the direction of Elena Radchenko, former principal dancer with the Bolshoi Ballet. The story showcases all the ideals of classical ballet: beauty, strength and grace. The epitome of romantic Russian ballet, " Swan Lake" captures the tragic tale of doomed lovers, centering around one of the most recognizable themes in dance: good triumphing over evil. Individual ticket prices are $63 for Level A, $54 for Level B, $46 for Level C and $38 for Level D. "Swan Lake" is sponsored by Good Shepherd Medical Center and AEP SWEPCO.

Friday and Saturday, April 8 and 9, 2011- "CATS," the world's best-loved musical by composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, will bring to life one of the longest running shows in Broadway history. Winner of seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical, "CATS" features timeless melodies including the hit song, "Memory." Individual ticket prices are $72 for Level A, $64 for Level B, $56 for Level C and $48 for Level D. Show sponsor for Friday night's performance is Lewis Architects Engineers and Tom and Marge Dome. Show sponsors for Saturday night's performance of "CATS" is Longview Regional Medical Center and Edge Office Products.

The 2010-2011 Belcher Center Concert Series features a wide spectrum of music from Texas Swing, jazz, bluegrass and soulful piano.

Saturday, Sept. 25- Asleep At the Wheel, the famed western-swing, boogie, and roots-music outfit will fill the hall with Grammy Award-winning music as the band celebrates its 40th anniversary. Tickets for this concert will be $38 for Level A, $33 for Level B, $28 for Level C and $23 for Level D. " Asleep At the Wheel" is sponsored by Sidney and Anna Lee Allen

Saturday, Oct. 16- Dailey and Vincent, the most heralded new act in bluegrass music, winning seven awards at the 2008 International Bluegrass Music Awards Show, will bring their high level of energy to the Belcher stage. They will be joined by opening artist Jim Hurst. Tickets for this concert will be $34 for Level A, $38 for Level B, $22 for Level C and $16 for Level D. Show sponsors for " Daily and Vincent" are Eastman Chemical Company and Gregg Industrial Insulators.

Friday, Jan. 14, 2011-Famed jazz musician Al Jarreau will bring his unique vocal style and innovative musical expressions to the Belcher Center stage. Audiences will see why he is one of the most exciting and critically acclaimed performers of our time, having won five Grammy Awards and scores of international music awards and accolades worldwide. Opening for Jarreau will be favorite local jazz musician George Faber, who is sponsored by the City of Longview MLK Celebration Committee. Tickets for this concert are $62 for Level A, $54 for Level B, $46 for Level C and $38 for Level D. Sponsors for this show are Neiman Marcus and Pelaia Law Center and the Belcher Center Donor Group.

Saturday, March 5, 2011- Jim Brickman and Friends will show why he is one of the best-selling solo piano artists of our time. Brickman has received international acclaim as a concert performer, taking his popular live concerts to more than 125 cities every year. Tickets for this concert are $52 for Level A, $44 for Level B, $36 for Level C and $28 for Level D. Jim Brickman and Friends show sponsors are Richard and Carol Manley.

This year marks the first Children's and Family Series that will feature two shows sure to please the child in us all. Both performances will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets for these shows are $8 for adults and $3 for children 14 and under. They will go on sale Aug. 2, unless ordered at the same time as event ticket packages for the Performance and Concert Series. Sponsor for both children's shows is McDonald's.

Tuesday, Oct. 5- "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," Washington Irving's most famous American ghost story is presented in a dynamic production, full of comedy, mystery, adventure and excitement. Tickets for this show are $8 for adults and $3 for children 14 and under.

Friday, Feb. 4, 2011- "Ferdinand the Bull," is the delightful story of a bull who prefers picking flowers to joining bullfighters in the ring. The story unfolds when he meets Danilo, the reluctant matador, and the two of them refuse to go along with the crowd. The production integrates Spanish, flamenco dancing and original music to create a wonderful and memorable theatrical experience for children young and old.

Ticket package pricing includes discounts from the individual ticket prices. A 15 percent discount applies to those purchasing all eight shows in the Performance and Concert Series. For those choosing seven, six or five shows, the discount is 14 percent, 13 percent and 12 percent, respectively. For those choosing all four shows in either the Performance or Concert Series, a 10 percent discount applies.

Tickets to the Children's and Family Series will go on sale July 1 to anyone buying any ticket package for the Performance and Concert series, and they will go on sale to others on Aug. 1.

"We think this fourth season at the Belcher Center is the best one yet," said Cynthia Hellen, director of the Belcher Center. "This year we are including more flexibility for people to personalize their event ticket packages with a variety of discounts available, depending on how many shows they choose. Those who had season tickets or "build-your-own-season" packets last year have first choice at the best seats available until July 21st when event ticket packages go on sale to the public. In additional to the ticket discounts for packages, there are also big savings on service fees and mailing fees when buying a ticket package."

Last year's season ticket holders have first right of refusal on renewing their seats until July 21. After that, new event ticket packages will be available for new subscribers. Package pricing for tickets will be available throughout the season. Individual show ticket prices are available online at www.BelcherCenter.com and will go on sale Aug. 2.
