Ruben Martin to Receive Gossett Award

LeTourneau University will award the Henry O. Gossett, Jr. Community Partner Award to Ruben Martin of Martin Midstream Partners at a Scholarship Gala: A Celebratory Community Banquet held Nov. 5 at Pinecrest Country Club.

For over a decade, the Henry O. Gossett, Jr. Community Partner Award has been awarded to a community leader who demonstrates long-term commitment to LeTourneau University and strengthens the ties between the university and the Longview community. The Henry O. Gossett, Jr. Community Partner Award is named in honor of Henry Gossett, the late Longview businessman who was the founding president of the LETU President's Advisory Council that advises the university's administration. Gossett was a benefactor for a number of LeTourneau projects.

"Ruben Martin is a loyal friend of LeTourneau University," said LETU President Dale A. Lunsford. "Ruben cares deeply for our students, and Martin Midstream Partners was one of the first sponsors of a Presidential Scholarship to provide needed funds for students attending LeTourneau University. He has provided leadership for multiple community campaigns for university improvements, such as the S.E. Belcher, Jr. Chapel and Performance Center. We are delighted to honor Ruben and thank him for his service to our community and to LeTourneau University."

The Scholarship Gala recognizes companies and individuals within the Longview community and across the nation who support students by providing essential scholarships. Students who have received scholarships will speak about what the scholarships have meant to them. Nearly 30 local businesses will be recognized for annually providing Presidential Scholarships of $3,000 per year, with a four-year commitment.

The public is invited to reserve a seat or table at the Scholarship Gala by Oct. 22. Tables and individual seats can be purchased for $65 per person or $500 for a table of eight by calling Kenda Bedford at 903.233.3802 or e-mailing KendaBedford@letu.edu. Proceeds from the event support additional student scholarships.
