LETU Wins Texas Roundup Governor's Cup

LeTourneau University's Get Fit Longview team won the 2009 Governor's Cup for its participation in the Texas Roundup Health and Fitness Initiative sponsored by Texas Governor Rick Perry's office.

The Texas Roundup is a nonprofit organization with a mission to improve the health of Texans through education and promotion of physical activity and healthy living. The challenge was for adults to exercise 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week for six weeks.

"Our participants logged in more minutes than any other organization of its size during the six-week period of testing earlier this year," said Wayne Jacobs, dean of the School of Education and the team leader of the LETU Stingers, which is the name of LETU's team. "It is important because the Fitness Challenge is a program that allows you to keep a record of all your physical activity as you accept the challenge to incorporate physical activity in your daily life. The Texas Roundup is our State of Texas partner in this initiative."

Texas Gov. Rick Perry launched the Texas Roundup statewide fitness initiative and 10K race in 2004 to motivate and encourage Texans to become more active and to incorporate healthy choices in their daily lives.
