LETU-Houston Student-Employee to Run Boston Marathon

Eva Luckey, a student and an operation and testing specialist from LeTourneau University's School of Graduate and Professional Studies' Houston campus, will run in the Boston Marathon April 19, 2009. The marathon will raise money for the Leukemia Foundation. In an effort to support Luckey, her Houston "GAPS family" of faculty and staff gathered together to help raise funds for the cause.
Luckey has always been involved in physical activities from decathlons to yoga. She enjoys competition, while also maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Luckey says running is one activity she really enjoys in particular. She has run in numerous races, including 25 marathons - seven of which were previous Boston Marathons. Luckey doesn't just enjoy running because of the personal benefits, she also has a desire to help others. She has been able to raise money for charities and causes in the past such as autism, cancer, Huntington's disease, Alzheimer's, hypertension/high blood pressure, diabetes, leukemia, local homeless shelters, United Way, scholarships for high school students, and more.
"I thank God for every step I make because I know without His strength and protection I could not do this," says Luckey, "So when I run, I do so not only to receive an award, but I run to fulfill God's Will utilizing the talent he has so graciously blessed me to pay it forward and to bless others, especially those who cannot help themselves."
A group of LETU-Houston employees meet together for a bi-monthly "Lunch Bunch." This month, instead of going out for lunch, someone offered to provide lunch for the group, allowing them to donate the money they would have spent on lunch to the Leukemia Foundation. The group raised $406 in one lunch meeting.
"I was amazed at the generosity of our people, especially during this tough economic time," said Dawn Rodak, director of the LETU-Houston location. Lisa Stewart, LETU-Houston quality control manager, helped organize the fundraiser.
