Ryal-Baker, Ph.D., D.Min.

I am currently a Master Faculty at LeTourneau University in the online program, an adjunct on-campus Instructor in the school of Human Development at Southern Methodist University, and Psychology Instructor (online and on-campus) at Trinity Valley Community College. I am also a Psychotherapist (Licensed Professional Counselor) in private practice at The Rial-Baker Psychotherapy Clinic in Forney, Texas from 2005-present.

From 1986- 2003 I worked for the Kaufman Independent School District. I am an elementary and secondary certified teacher with a specialization in reading, English, and speech communications. I am also a certified principal (mid-management). I have taught all grade levels. I have experience as High School Principal, Assistant Elementary School Principal, and Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction in the Kaufman ISD.

  • The Focused Curriculum: A curriculum framework guide to help teachers build a curriculum logically-over a one year period.
  • REACH OUT: Reaching Expectations and Continually Helping Others Understand Testing: A guide to be used by teachers to help students and teachers understand the underpinnings and necessity of assessment. This guide helps teachers to understand the importance of concept attainment in their teaching techniques, helps parents understand how to read and interpret tests and how to help their children be successful on standardized or criterion referenced tests, and helps students to lessen test anxiety and develop study skills necessary in mastering various tests.
  • "Writing Designs": A program to help teachers understand the underpinning of teaching writing. This program includes techniques for concept attainment, philosophical and psychological references to how the brain encodes, stores, and retrieves relevant information, and how students can use graphic and advanced organizers to master the craft of writing.
  • "Homework Woes": An article published in the KISD newsletter outlining ways parents can help their children manage homework; includes ideas for room and material arrangement, positive reinforcement, and ways to communicate effectively.
  • Dissertation: The Connection between a Family's Spiritual Reality, Clearly Defined Values, and the Use of Christ-Centered Learning Intervention as it Relates to School Age Children-- Seminary doctoral study to determine how or if family/spiritual counseling can aid children in developing and transferring healthy interaction to the academic arena-including healthy work habits, habits of mind, discipline, and goals.
  • "Connections": Creator and developer of staff development offered in-school and out-of-school for teachers to recognize the power of connections-including: connections between teacher and student; neurological connections; parent connections; prior knowledge connections, and professional connections.
