The LeTourneau University Printshop


  1. When printing photographs that have been imported on the computer, you will almost always get better quality if you print from the computer.
    1. E-mail the file or bring it to the Print Shop on a jump drive or CD.
    2. A copy made from a hard copy will still provide good quality, but not the best.
    3. Always use a high quality, non-blurry picture. Quality is only as good as the picture provided.
  2. When printing other color material (created in MS Publisher or downloaded from the internet for example), keep a few things in mind.
    1. The colors will not always print exactly the way they appear on the screen. The machine does its best to match the colors.
    2. Using true colors (red, blue, orange, green, etc.) will give a better print out or copy than using washed-out colors.
    3. Some special effects (shadowing, light background effects, etc.) may be lost using a hard copy on the copier. It cannot pick up some of those light colors and many times will result in the copy looking smudged or dirty. These are almost always better if printed from the computer.
  3. The copier will automatically put a ΒΌ" white border on the copies. It will not print color to the edge of the paper.
  4. Color copying takes more time than black and white. Time depends on the complexity and size of the file.
  5. The machine occasionally jams. If providing special paper for the print job, please supply extra for this purpose.


  1. When are having an item cut to a particular size, please leave adequate space between text or pictures and the edge of the border desired .
    1. For example: The finished product is to be 3" by 4", make the text box a little smaller than that.
    2. If there are multiple prints on a page that re to be cut out do not put images right beside each other, leave room for the cutter.
    3. If there is a background and would like the white margin the printer leaves cut off, allow about a quarter inch between the edge of the background and text.
    4. Do not draw lines around the area where the paper is to be cut; simply state the size needed. Lines leave the paper looking smudged or will make edges look dirty.
  1. The same is true when having a booklet made. When several sheets of paper are folded, the center sheets will be longer than the outside pages. This means the pages must be trimmed down. If the text is close to the edge, it will be cut off.
  1. The folding machine will only fold one sheet at a time and cannot fold card stock or coated (glossy) paper. It can only do a double fold in the same direction (fold in twice).
    1. These must be folded by hand, so please allow additional time.
    2. There will be an extra fee for folding by hand.


  1. The laminator attaches the laminating film directly to your piece of paper.
  2. Putting 2 pieces of paper together to laminate will not work. The two pieces will simply peel apart. Gluing them does not usually help.
  3. Double-sided items to be laminated need to be done on one sheet of paper (front to back).
  4. Putting a small piece of paper on a larger piece of card stock and laminating will create a bubble effect.
  5. Laminating a whole sheet and then cutting will save you money versus cutting and then laminating. If cut into smaller pieces, more laminating film will be used.
  6. The laminator will occasionally "eat your original". Do not attempt to have something laminated that cannot be replaced.


  1. When saving a created file, please embed the fonts. The Print Shop computer may not have the font you used.
  2. Create the file in the format in which it is to be printed. If 2 ,4, or 10 images are on a page, design it that way. If a file is sent with 1 on the page, the finished product will have 1 image on the page.
  3. The printer cannot put several images on a page except in publisher and it must be created in the right size. If the Print Shop has to recreate it a charge of $15 per hour will be accessed and recreation will take a good deal of time.
  4. The Print Shop does not have all the software that other computers on campus may have . Items created in Microsoft files, .pdf or .jpg format can be printed. If another software is used please save it as a .pdf or .jpg.
  5. The mail server will only allow up to 15mb to be sent by e-mail. Any file larger than 15mb will need to stored on a thumb drive or CD and brought to the Print Shop. The file will be save to the desktop and the thumb drive/CD returned, no need to leave it here.
  6. There is also a printshop "upload" available on the start page under forms and publications for files larger than 15mb. This can be opened and your file dragged to this file. You must send a completed work request to printshop@letu.edu and let us know the file is there. It is not checked on a regular basis.
  7. Check (and double-check) your submission for accuracy. Printing usually begins within an hour of receiving a request (unless something is already printing). If something must be reprinted, not only do you have to pay for it twice, but also precious time will be needed to print it again.
  8. If you do not want the last page printed tell us. Again, double-check your request. Many people will have a blank page at the end of their Word document. If you do not want it printed, delete it. If it runs through the printer the University is charged for it and we must therefore charge you.
  9. If you do not check the staple box, your copies will not be stapled. We will not assume that you want them that way and we will not staple them by hand.
  10. If unsure how colors will look when printed ask for a sample. The Print Shop will be happy to provide this for you. This also provides an opportunity to double check for accuracy.
  11. Please save print jobs that will be needed in the future. E-mailed requests are kept for about 6 months, and then deleted.
  12. Please call if you have any questions as to the best way to lay something out or software to use before you begin creating the file. We would be happy to discuss this with you, to help you avoid needing to recreate a print job; hopefully saving you precious time and eliminating a rush job situation. .


The start of a new school year can be stressful and extremely busy. Everyone on campus needs a great deal of printing. Everyone's stress level can be reduced if we work together to ensure everyone's needs can be met in a timely manner. Please consider the following ideas when planning for the new school year.

  1. Summer break is a great time to have routine printing done to avoid the peek demand times:
    1. Routing slips
    2. Calendar pads
    3. Forms that do not change
    4. Business cards
  2. You do not have to wait until you have "every" request finalized to submit your requests.
    1. While waiting for a final schedule or signature for part of your package, you can still submit other parts (i.e. book covers, separate pages that are not part of a book)
    2. If you have several different books or forms that will be needed, submit each one as it is finalized.
  3. Plan early. When everyone waits until the end of July, beginning of August, it can create a backlog and we cannot guarantee that all jobs will be done when need, especially if a machine breaks down.
    1. If needing several hundred books, please allow adequate time. A minimum of 2 to 3 weeks is needed at this time of year to print and assemble several hundred books.
    2. Allowing more time will help ensure your request will withstand machine malfunctions and human error.
  4. Put accurate dates on your request. If you need it in a week, please allow that amount of time for completion.
  5. All personal requests will be done as time allows. You may not be able to have a quick turn around during this time of year.
