Students Seeking Teacher Certification

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) requires all candidates for a Texas Teaching Certificate to pass teacher certification exams. These exams are referred to as TExES (Texas Examinations for Educator Standards).

Typically, candidates must pass two types of state exams:

  • Content area test
  • Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities (PPR) test

Candidates seeking Secondary Spanish, German or French certification have an exam called LOTE. The new content exam covers all areas in one test, written and spoken language.

Upon successful completion of a practice exam the candidate will receive approval to test. Candidates can verify their test approval by going to www.texes.ets.org. Choose REGISTER at the top of the page and log in. Follow the instructions to register for an exam. Test approvals are also posted at the TEA web site and can be viewed by going to tea.texas.gov > VIEW EXAMINATIONS.

MEd (Educational Administration):

TEA requires all candidates seeking principal credentials to pass the TExES Principal exam. Study materials are located at www.texes.ets.org/prepMaterials/
