Abstract: Hydroformylation is a classical organometallic reaction that converts alkenes, carbon monoxide, and hydrogen to industrially relevant aldehydes. At Eastman Chemicals, hydroformylation is responsible for billions of pounds annually of Butyraldehyde, Isobutyraldehyde, and Propionaldehyde. These three molecules make up the backbone of derivatives produced at our Longview, TX site. This talk will trace the history of hydroformylation chemistry and its development at Eastman Chemical.
