ABOUT THE WHEELCHAIR INTERFACE QUESTIONNAIRE

The Wheelchair Interface Questionnaire (WIQ) is designed to provide data on the quality of the interface between a user and their wheelchair. It provides a moment in time assessment based on professional opinion. Interaction with the wheelchair user is encouraged but not required.

The WIQ is usable in studies in low and middle-income countries. It is a brief assessment which allows it to be used in situations where tracking over time may be very difficult. The ability to complete it without spoken interaction allows it to be used in situations where wheelchair users may speak another language or be non-verbal. The questions enable feedback on each wheelchair region and are worded to allow the questionnaire to be fully completed for wheelchair users with both complex and basic seating needs.

It is designed to be completed by wheelchair service providers, because they form the population with the most comprehensive background and depth of experience in appropriate wheelchair provision. They are the people most competent to provide data on the quality of the interface between a wheelchair user and his or her wheelchair.
