U.S. News Ranks LETU in Top Tier of 2017 College Rankings

Tue, Sep 13 2016

LeTourneau University has ranked again in the top tier of the national 2017 U.S. News and World Report’s annual rankings of “America’s Best Colleges.”

LETU is ranked 27th in 2017, up from 32 in 2016, among all the universities in its category of “Best Regional Universities in the Western Region.”  This year marks the 23rd year the university has ranked in the top tier of its classification.

LETU was also ranked 4th among best value for regional universities in the West in its “Great Schools Great Prices” ranking.

LETU was also listed as one of only 3 Texas universities on the A-plus Schools for B-students ranking.  This is a ranking of schools that admit a meaningful proportion of applicants whose test scores and class standings are non-A students, but are schools that provide a decent shot at being accepted and thriving with spirit and hard work.

LETU also ranked 15th on the list of Best Colleges for Veterans, a jump from a ranking of 27 last year.

U.S. News ranks colleges and universities among other schools with similar programs and degree offerings. Indicators used to determine the rankings include academic reputation, retention, faculty, class sizes, SAT and ACT scores of incoming freshmen, average graduation rates and assessments by administrators at other peer universities. U.S. News rankings are released each fall and are considered the most notable of the annual published college rankings.

“To rank so well out of 120 similar universities in the West, a region that spans from Texas to Alaska, says much about the quality of the faculty and staff serving at LETU,” said LETU President Dr. Dale A. Lunsford.  “To have been ranked in the top tier of the region for 23 years is a credit to leadership past and present at LETU.  Our engineering program continues to climb in the rankings of the nation’s engineering programs.  And these gains are happening while the university remains committed to being a good value for students.  We are ranked even higher when one considers the price paid by students for the academic quality received.”

In the 2017 U.S. News’ “Best Engineering Programs in the United States” ranking, LETU’s engineering school moved up to 31st place, up from 39th in 2016 and 41st in 2015  among over 200 ABET-accredited engineering schools across the nation whose highest degree is a bachelor’s or master’s degree.

“The ranking strongly affirms LeTourneau as one of ‘America’s Best Engineering Schools’ and shows us as the top-ranked school of engineering within the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities,” said LETU Dean of Engineering Dr. Ron DeLap.

The rankings, which include nearly 1,800 schools nationwide, are available at www.usnews.com/colleges beginning today, Sept. 13. The guide will be available in print on newsstands Oct. 4.
