LETU Fall Preview Oct. 31-Nov. 1 to Offer Scholarship Contests for Business Majors

Mon, Oct 21 2013

High school students looking for college scholarships might want to check out LeTourneau University’s School of Business during the upcoming Fall Preview, Thursday and Friday, Oct. 31-Nov. 1.  LETU School of Business is offering scholarships up to $15,000 a year over four years for high school students who compete in some exciting new contests during its upcoming Fall Preview.
The Fall Preview is for high school students to learn more about the exciting new direction of LETU’s business school, which is focusing on technology and entrepreneurship and helping students learn how to start and succeed in their own businesses. High school students interested in registering for the Fall Preview can register online at www.letu.edu/preview .

“The School of Business is going to do a scavenger hunt and business pitch contest for high school students to team up and explore campus while solving business-related tasks that could save them thousands in college tuition,” said LETU Dean of Business Dr. Bruce A. Bowman.  “We know that students today like to solve problems creatively, in a hands-on way, and this Fall Preview gives them the opportunity to do that and win big.
“For example, we may ask them to estimate the cost of covering the university bell tower in ¾” steel at today’s market prices,” Bowman said. “The top performing teams will compete for scholarships in a business pitch contest where they have to develop and pitch a concept for a student-run business.”
If enough high school students attend this LETU Fall Preview event,  the LETU business school plans to award one $5,000, two $2,500 and five $1,000 scholarships that will be renewable for up to four years to the winners, depending on Fall Preview enrollment.
Bowman, who is the new dean of the LETU School of Business, said the emphasis in business today is about technology and entrepreneurship.
“People in business today have to understand technology, and how that technology can benefit them in business, especially for those who have plans for running their own businesses someday,” Bowman said.  “We are living in an era of technology, and LETU is the place for future business leaders of the modern, technological world to learn and hone their skills.”
