The band started in 1999 as part of a youth group by youth pastor Mark Hall in Daytona Beach, Fla. The band relocated to Stockbridge, Ga., where some of the band members serve in church ministry. Casting Crowns recorded two independent albums in 2001 and 2002 that were well received in the Atlanta area. They signed with Beach Street Records, and with co-producer Steven Curtis Chapman, produced their 2003 eponymous release “Casting Crowns” studio album which made them one of the fastest debut artists in Christian music. The single, “Voice of Truth,” spent 14 weeks at No. 1 and in 2005 the album was certified platinum. Six albums have followed, including the 2013 “Acoustic Sessions: Volume One.” Their career sales exceed five million records and the band has won Grammy and Dove awards. Their 2005 album “Lifesong,” earned the band its first Grammy Award. The single “Lifesong” was voted 2005 “Inspirational Single of the Year.” Their fourth studio album, “Until the Whole World Hears,” debuted near the top of the Billboard 200 charts and set a new record for Christian album debut sales. The band won the Dove Award for Artist of the Year in 2010.
