The LeTourneau University athletics department opened its facilities Friday to students from Ware Elementary School in Longview as part of the Jacket Sports Clinic.
Approximately 150 third- and fifth-graders from Ware Elementary visited the LeTourneau campus and got to interact with YellowJacket players and coaches as part of the clinic, which included skills work and games in basketball, volleyball, soccer, tennis, kickball and flag football.
Instruction was provided by LeTourneau players and coaches. During the lunch break, LeTourneau athletes talked to the Ware students about the importance of working hard in class, listening to their teachers, making good grades and setting goals.
The camp also served to expose Longview-area students to the academic and athletic opportunities present in their hometown.
This was the first Jacket Sports Clinic hosted by LeTourneau University. The event is planned to be an annual offered to neighborhood elementary schools at the end of the school year.
