LeTourneau University sophomore aviation student Whitney Brouwer was awarded the $4,500 Ginocchio scholarship Tuesday from the National Business Aviation Association. The award was announced at the NBAA conference in Las Vegas, Nev. Brouwer is majoring in aircraft systems with an electrical technology concentration.
Named after Lawrence Ginocchio for his contributions to business aviation, the scholarship recognizes those individuals who have demonstrated honesty, integrity and selflessness in their dealing with others.
As a pilot and mechanic Brouwer wants to be able to help design intelligent cockpit displays that are easy to use. She has a private pilot certificate. She also plans to obtain her A&P Certificate. She feels in all aspects of aviation integrity is essential and a strong work ethic saves lives. She has worked at a nursing home as a dietary aid for residents. She volunteered over 120 hours with numerous groups to help rebuild homes in communities destroyed by flooding.
