LeTourneau University’s athletic fields are under construction this summer including improvements to grading, irrigation and drainage for all of the athletic fields used for soccer, baseball and softball.
“The existing facilities are being enhanced to create an athletic village that will serve the many intramural and recreational sports that are very popular with LETU students, as well as the NCAA baseball, softball and soccer teams,” said LETU President Dr. Dale A. Lunsford. “The new lighting will greatly expand the number of hours the fields can be used and will reduce missed class time for student athletes.”
Features include new fields for Yellowjacket soccer and intramural sports; new scoreboards; new brick field backstops for baseball and softball; expanded seating for spectators. Monumental entry gates and ornamental fencing will define the Athletic Village and connect it to the rest of campus.
The athletic village is possible because of a lead gift that was the largest ever for LETU athletics and the gifts of many individuals and firms in the Longview area.
Final completion is expected by late September.
