LeTourneau University will host Houston commencement ceremonies for graduates receiving undergraduate and graduate degrees from its School of Graduate and Professional Studies at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, at Sagemont Church, 11300 South Sam Houston Parkway East. LETU President Dr. Dale A. Lunsford will officiate the ceremony.
The Rev. David Luckert, senior pastor at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Richmond, Texas, will give the commencement address. Luckert is a 1980 alumnus of LETU who earned his Master of Divinity degree in 1985 from Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Ky. He is an ordained elder in the Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. He served as the pastor for several churches in the East Texas area, including six and a half years at the First Methodist Church in Chandler, Texas.
From 1988 to 1994, Luckert served as the Director of Chapel and Student Activities at LeTourneau University where he oversaw chapel services and other aspects of spiritual life on campus. Some of his responsibilities were LeTourneau Student Ministries, Missions Emphasis Week and Spring Break Missions, as well as student events, including intramural sports. During that time of transition at LeTourneau, army barracks on campus where Luckert lived as a student were demolished as the school grew in programs and as a university.
