Former NFL Player Rich Garza to Speak at LETU Monday, Sept. 29
Thu, Sep 24 2009
Former NFL offensive lineman Rich Garza will be LeTourneau
University’s featured chapel speaker from 10:50 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 28, in the S.E. Belcher
Jr. Chapel and Performance Center on the university’s main campus, 2100 S. Mobberly Ave. The event
is free and open to the public.
Garza was captain of Temple University’s football team during his
senior year. He then played for the Philadelphia Eagles and the Denver Broncos in the
NFL. After the NFL, he started 56 consecutive games in the USFL with the Philadelphia Stars
and San Antonio Gunslingers. Garza has spoken all over the country for the Fellowship of
Christian Athletes about making good choices, and he also has been a platform speaker for Bill
Glass’ ministry Champions for Life. He is currently co-chaplain for the San Antonio Spurs
basketball team.
LETU Chaplain Harold Carl described Garza as an encouraging
motivational speaker. “I believe he will really connect with our students and sports teams,” Carl
said. Garza will also speak to student-athletes in a more informal setting at 4 p.m. Tuesday,
Sept. 29, in the Steudler Lounge.
