Fri, Apr 17 2009
LeTourneau University has named Andy Cavins as its new head volleyball
coach. Cavins comes to LETU from the University of Georgia where he served as an assistant
coach from 2007 to 2009. He was also the director of the Club Volleyball program at UGA
during his time there. He is set to graduate in May with a Masters Degree in Kinesiology and
Sport Management and will join the LETU faculty family teaching in those fields.
"It is such an honor to be the new head coach at LeTourneau University,”
Cavins said. “The university has a great vision for the volleyball program, and I share its passion
and enthusiasm. I plan to build a volleyball powerhouse in the American Southwest Conference
through committed and talented student-athletes from Texas and throughout the nation."
Prior to UGA, Cavins assisted at Baylor University and also was the head
Club Volleyball coach while pursuing his undergraduate degree in English. He has also been
the co-director and head coach for the Addison Juniors volleyball team which is a club program
located in Addison, TX. Cavins brings 19 years of competitive club, national, and collegiate
volleyball playing experience to LeTourneau. His six years of collegiate coaching and proven
track record of recruiting and player development will enable him to take on the tough assignment
ahead.
“It never ceases to amaze me how God brings just the right people at the
right time,” said Executive Vice President for Business and Administration Bill McDowell, who
oversees the Athletics Department. “I am excited about LeTourneau Athletics and having a coach with
Andy’s experience and enthusiasm just confirms that the future is bright!”
