LETU Men's Basketball Undefeated in Conference Play
Wed, Dec 17 2008
With a perfect 6-0 conference record and with more than half of
those games being won on the road, the LETU men’s basketball team will have to play with the
pressure of being targeted by the rest of the American Southwest Conference. The six-game
conference win streak is the school’s best start in the history of the program.
In Monday night’s 78-64 win over the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs in
their Memorial Gymnasium, Senior Dewones Smith led all scorers with 18 points on 6-of-7 from
the field, including 3-of-4 from the arc, as the Jackets used a late, second-half 19-4 run to
secure the win.
The Jackets led by only two going into intermission, but shot the ball well in the second half
at 70.8 percent from the field to secure the win. They were also 7-for-13 in the game from
beyond the arc, shooting a flawless 100 percent in the second part of play.
LETU’s Dale Vanwright, the second leading scorer in the ASC, finished the game with 11 points
and a team high 8 rebounds and 5 assist. Josh Davis and JJ Rockmore added 11 and 10 points
respectively. In addition, Will Smith dished out a team high 4 blocks on the night.
The win keeps LETU (7-1, 6-0 ASC) tied for first place in the ASC East with
Texas-Dallas.
The YellowJackets will take a well deserved break for the holidays before returning to play on
December 29
th in a tournament in Belton, Texas.
