Students to Celebrate Completion of House-building Project
Wed, Nov 5 2008
LeTourneau University students, faculty and staff will join with
local neighbor Sye Jackson, 80, and members of the Red Oak Baptist Church at noon, Thursday, Nov.
6, 2008, to pray and celebrate the completion of his new home at 2604 Vesta St.
Jackson’s home was razed by students earlier this year and rebuilt
with donations of building materials, equipment, labor and funding to build the new house
based on a floor plan used by Habitat for Humanity.
“This project was a partnership between the university and the
community to help a neighbor,” said Carlton Mitchell, director for cultural competence in LETU’s
Center for the Development of Christian Leadership.
