LETU to Present Broadway Musical 'The Pajama Game'
Tue, Sep 30 2008
LeTourneau University will present the Broadway musical “The
Pajama Game” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, in the S.E. Belcher Jr. Chapel and Performance Center,
2100 S. Mobberly Ave. Show sponsor is Longview Regional Medical Center.
Based on Richard Bissell's novel titled
7½ Cents, the nationally touring musical of the Broadway smash hit has audiences laughing
in a fast-paced, tale of garment workers seeking a seven-and-a-half cent raise. The musical
has received two Tony® Awards for the 2006 production, seven Drama Desk Award nominations, as well
as eight Outer Critics Circle Award nominations.
The Pajama Game tells the story of Babe, a feisty employee representative who finds her
match in the pajama shop superintendent, Sid. The musical overflows with pajamas, love, singing and
conflicts between the labor union and the management. The high-energy score of
The Pajama Game, by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross, brims with popular hits and musical
theater standards such as
Hey There,
Steam Heat and
Hernando's Hideaway.
Individual show ticket prices to see “The Pajama Game” are $55 for
first orchestra Level A seating, $45 for second orchestra Level B seating, $35 for lower balcony
Level C seating and $25 for upper balcony Level D seating. Martin Midstream Partners is the
season sponsor for 2008-2009 Belcher Center performance series.
For those wanting the discount benefit of season ticket pricing,
but not available to attend all eight shows in the 2008-2009 Performance Series, the Belcher Center
is offering a “build your own” season for those who want to choose five or more shows from among
the eight offerings.
“Eight shows in a season is a lot, and not everyone can attend all
of the shows, so we are offering a Build Your Own option,” said Belcher Center Director Cynthia
Hellen. “People can pick five, six or seven of the eight shows and still receive season ticket
discount pricing. In addition, we have put together a special three-show Broadway package,
featuring ‘The Pajama Game,’ ‘100 Year of Broadway’ and ‘Annie’ at the season ticket pricing.”
Designed by experts in acoustical engineering, the S.E. Belcher
Jr. Chapel and Performance Center seats more than 2,000 with orchestra, mezzanine and two
balconies. Prominently located at the front of the university campus at 2100 S. Mobberly Ave,
the Belcher Center is the largest building on LETU’s 162-acre campus. The center was built
primarily as a chapel where students gather three times each week for worship and spiritual
instruction, but the center also hosts educational, cultural and spiritual programs for the
community.
