Sat, Sep 20 2008
To help bring a little cheer to the evacuees of
Hurricane Ike, LeTourneau University is inviting them to attend a Sunday matinee play performance
in the S.E. Belcher Jr. Chapel and Performance Center.
“First Baptist of Ivy Gap” is a delightful Southern
comedy performed by the Cumberland County Playhouse. The family-friendly show will begin at 3
p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21. Doors open at 2 p.m. Hurricane evacuees can get their free tickets by
showing some identification at the ticket booth.
Tickets for everyone else cost $20, $15 or
$10.
In Act 1, the comedy features women of the church
preparing for the church’s 75
th anniversary as World War II is ending.
Act II features the church women preparing for the 100
th anniversary of the church during the Viet Nam War.
Reviewers have said about this play that if you go to
church, you will recognize some of the characters. The Cumberland County Playhouse is no
stranger to the Belcher Center. It presented “Smoke on the Mountain” as the first performance
in the center in June 2006.
