The LeTourneau University Men’s Soccer team notched it’s
first win of the season as it went on the road and defeated Centre College 1-0 Sept. 5. With
the win LETU picks up a hard-fought victory and improves to 1-2-0 on the young season.
To take a look just at the stats, it would appear as
though the Colonels of Centre College dominated the match by out shooting LETU 18-4. The
Colonels had many chances to take the lead throughout the game but the YellowJackets favored
defensive strategy of 10 men on the defensive side of the ball clogged the Colonels offensive
attack. It was during the second half that LeTourneau scored off of a set piece and took the lead
1-0. The deciding goal came in the 67 minute when senior Ryan Rector (Longview, TX/Longview) weaved
a pass through the interior and red shirt-freshmen Dillon Holt (Boerne, TX/Boerne) headed the ball
past the outstretched goalie to put the Jackets on top for good.
“This was a good win for this team,” said Head Coach Tom
Wait. “Our guys have been meshing and growing together early in the year and for us to push
out this tough win will be very good for us down stretch.”
The YellowJackets will be back in action Saturday as
they will take on Transylvania in the afternoon matchup at 5 p.m.
