Tommy Nelson To Speak During LETU's Spiritual Emphasis Week

Tommy Nelson, author, speaker and senior pastor of Denton Bible Church, will be the featured speaker for LeTourneau University’s Spiritual Emphasis Week Sept. 1-3.   Nelson is renowned for his work with the Song of Solomon Bible conferences held around the country each year.

Nelson will speak to LETU students in chapel each morning from 10:25  – 11:05 a.m. and on Monday and Tuesday nights from 7 – 8 p.m.. All chapels will be held in the S.E. Belcher Jr. Chapel and Performance Center at 2100 S. Mobberly Ave., Longview, TX.  The public is invited to attend.

Topics include: “The Universe Next Door: America’s shift in Worldview,” “When the Son of Man Comes, Will He Find Faith?,” “Here I Stand, (Heb. 13:10),” “The Letter to Philemon – The Doctrine of Orthopraxy” and “Living on Purpose (Luke 19:11-27).”

Tommy Nelson attended North Texas State University, now the University of North Texas, where he played quarterback for the football team. Nelson was led to Christ in 1972 after he and his roommate were presented with the Gospel. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education/Biology in 1973. Nelson enrolled at Dallas Theological Seminary in 1977 while serving as an associate pastor of Denton Bible Church. During his time at Dallas Theological Seminary, Nelson became involved with Campus Crusade for Christ and his passion for making disciples was born.

After graduating from Dallas Theological Seminary in 1982, Nelson became an associate pastor of Denton Bible Church. Nelson has pastored at the church for 28 years and is presently the senior pastor. Nelson is renowned for his teaching materials concerning relationships and has authored three books: The Big Picture, The Book of Romance and The Problem of Life With God. A fourth book, Better Love Now, was released in January 2008. He has been a featured speaker for Focus on the Family, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and FamilyLife Today.
