LeTourneau University has again ranked in the top tier nationally in the U.S. News and World Report’s rankings of "America's Best Colleges."
LeTourneau University is ranked 31st among Best Universities — Master’s in the Western Region in the 2009 U.S. News rankings, and was 7th among Texas schools in the region. LETU was also named in the top tier of best engineering programs in the nation offering only bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
Only four Texas schools appeared on this engineering list of best programs. Other Texas schools included Baylor, Trinity University and Texas Christian University. This ranking is based solely on peer survey of deans and senior faculty at universities around the nation.
For 15 years, the university has been listed in the magazine’s top rankings, the last seven years among larger, more comprehensive colleges. LeTourneau was reclassified in 2001 due to growth in its degree program offerings. Fall 2007 enrollment was just under 4,000 students.
U.S. News ranks colleges and universities among other schools with similar programs and degree offerings.
“This honor is another indicator of our quality, Christ-centered academic programs, particularly the new ranking in engineering,” said LETU President Dr. Dale A. Lunsford. “This year, our senior engineering design teams came home with three first place wins against stiff competition from other schools across the nation.”
Indicators used to determine the rankings include SAT and ACT scores of incoming freshmen, the student-to-faculty ratio, average graduation rates and assessments by administrators at other peer universities. Small class sizes also contribute to the university’s top-tier ranking.
The rankings showed one percent of the university’s classes have 50 or more students enrolled.
The average student-to-faculty ratio is 19-to-1.LeTourneau University is an interdenominational
Christian university located in south Longview, offering academic majors in aeronautical science,
business, education, engineering, the humanities and sciences. LeTourneau University also offers
business degrees and teacher certification programs online and at educational centers in Austin,
Bedford, Dallas, Houston and Tyler.
