LETU YellowJackets Host ETBU Tigers in East Texas Showdown
Wed, Oct 8 2008
When it comes to rivalries in the American Southwest Conference of
NCAA Division III, few match the intensity that an ETBU versus LETU showdown brings. The
Tigers come to LETU Thursday night for a double-header in women’s and men’s soccer at 6 and 8 p.m.,
respectively.
The women’s game will kick off at 6 p.m. with both teams fighting for
a playoff birth. Currently the YellowJackets sit in 10
th place with a 2-4-0 conference record while the Tigers are two places ahead in 8
th at 3-3-0. A win by LeTourneau would put the teams in a tie with six ASC games
remaining. Four of the Jackets’ remaining games are at the friendly confines of the LeTourneau
Soccer Complex. The women’s team comes in fresh off a victory over Schreiner University in
which junior Kirby Posey recorded three goals and an assist in a 4-0 victory. The Tigers lost
their last time out falling to Texas Lutheran 4-0.
In the 8 p.m. nightcap, the men will square off in what is sure to be
a physical and fast paced competition. LETU’s men (3-2-1) are in a three-way tie with ETBU and
HPU for 5
th place in the league. With the top six teams making it to the tourney, winning
this match will put one team in a good position. The Jackets do have six remaining conference
games with four of those coming on their home turf. A weekend ago, LETU lost a double OT game
to Texas Lutheran University and then drew to a tie in double OT with Schreiner
University. The Tigers faired the same last weekend dropping a tough game to TLU and tying
SU.
Both teams are encouraging students and community fans to come out and
support your YellowJackets by wearing blue and gold.
