Life After Class

Is there life after class on a campus where course work is challenging?  Definitely.  Our balanced mission highlights the importance of student activities combined with academics.  Christian activities, clubs, student organizations, intercollegiate and intramural sports, and residential life are all important parts of a LeTourneau University education.

Spiritual Life

The Spiritual Life Program at LeTourneau University plays an integral role in helping students discover and live out their identity in Christ whether they are maturing in their relationship with him or just coming to know him as their Lord and Savior.  The University Chaplain provides oversight of all spiritual life programs and also provides spiritual direction and counsel to all members of the LeTourneau community.  Chaplain Interns in each residence area provide opportunities for students to take part in small group Bible studies, prayer groups, and community service projects.  LeTourneau Student Ministries (LSM) provides ministry opportunities to the campus community and the larger Longview community.  LSM also organizes spring break and summer mission trips to locations both in the United States and other countries, including numerous trips to Mexico. 

Worship is important to the LeTourneau community.  Students, faculty, and staff come together three times each week for chapel.  Chapel programs include locally and nationally known speakers, missionaries, music and drama groups, and a variety of students and faculty.  Students also organize weekly prayer and praise services.  Students are encouraged to become actively involved in local churches. 

Organizations

Students are able to find a number of ways to exercise their creative skills, enhance their social skills, and develop their leadership potential. A variety of organizations on the campus are available for students to participate actively in professional, academic, athletic, or social activities during their university years.

Our leadership group, IMPACT, engages over 200 LeTourneau University student leaders to grow in Christ-centered leadership through a range of experiences by inspiring, challenging, and equipping students to be change agents who cast a vision for the campus and their areas of influence.  Some other opportunities include the following examples from over 40 campus organizations: Society of Women Engineers (SWE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE), Kappa Psi Delta (Psychology Club), International Justice Mission, Automotive Society, Mu Kappa (International Student Organization), Association for Computing Machinery, LeTourneau Student Ministries, and American Marketing Association.

If your interests include government, you might enjoy being involved with Student Senate.  Elected annually from the entire student body, senators represent the students by communicating the faculty and administration.  The YellowJacket Activities Council is a group of students who are committed to providing quality programs, activities, and special events that create opportunities for whole person and community development through edifying entertainment and creative Christian fellowship.  Outdoor music, coffeehouses, Film Festival, Battle of the Bands, and PWN fest are a few examples of annual events.

Students with musical and drama interests have many opportunities to be involved.  The LeTourneau Chorus is open to men and women who love to sing for the joy of singing.  Jazz Band is available to all instrumentalists who enjoy that genre of music.  If you have theatrical talent, then Stage Right may be for you.  Stage Right presents regular theatrical productions on campus.  Students of all skill levels are encouraged to participate.

Student publications play a vital role in the life of the University.  The Pioneer, the university yearbook, and the YellowJacket, a biweekly newspaper, provide valuable journalistic experience in writing, editing, and layout while chronicling campus life.  All interested students are eligible and encouraged to apply for available positions.

Athletics at LeTourneau

Athletics, both intercollegiate and intramural, are a vital part of LeTourneau's commitment to develop the whole person.  Our purpose is to provide the benefits of quality athletic participation and an introduction to new recreation to as many students as possible.  Our athletes strive to accomplish a high degree of athletic achievement, academic diligence, and Christian commitment, thus developing body, mind, and spirit.

The intercollegiate athletic program provides student athletes an opportunity for maximum development of their competitive skills.  The University sponsors 11 varsity teams, 5 men and 6 women. Men’s sports include baseball, basketball, cross-country, golf, soccer, and tennis.  The women’s sports are basketball, cross-country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, and volleyball.  LeTourneau University is a member of the American Southwest Conference, Division III, NCAA III (National Collegiate Athletic Association).

All student athletes must be covered under an insurance policy that incorporates participation in athletics.  The University has provided an insurance carrier, at student expense, for those needing a primary policy.  The University insures student athletes with a secondary policy that covers accidents over $25,000.00 and up to $75,000.00, at which point the NCAA policy comes into effect at no cost to the student.

 To represent LeTourneau University in varsity athletics, a student-athlete must be in good standing with the University and not be on academic or disciplinary probation.
